Here we are! WPPI in Vegas

We awoke Monday at 4AM and got a ride to the airport with my Dad, (he owns AA Airport Sedan) at www.cruzlimo.com We arrived in Vegas at 8:40 where our good friend Steve Kurtz of Kurtz Photographics came to pick us up. We checked out the trade show and attended the Bay Photo Lab party. Fun Stuff! Check out Bay Photo Lab at www.bayphoto.com There we hung out with some of our other friends and had a great evening. Today I managed to spend less than a couple thousand, (usually it's more like $5k) but its really hard. I feel like a kid in a candy store. This place is a pilgrimage for any photographer! We snapped a few photos with our pocket Canon camera. This is just a small corner of the convention...its enormous! Image

WPPI Trade Show in Las Vegas March 26-29th, 2007

Hey Everyone! Mish and I are off to Vegas for 4 days to soak up as much learning and inspiration as we can. We always try to push ourselves harder to be the best, and a big part of that is constantly learning and setting new goals. I started attending WPPI in Vegas 2 years ago...this will be my third time. The first time I went, it opened my eyes to what is possible in Wedding Photography. I saw some things that Yervant, Marcus Bell and Dennis Reggie were doing, and it opened up a whole new world. That new world has become the reality that I can do what I want, and not have to follow traditions. I can use my eye, and my creativity, and I don't just have to get the traditional photos. I can be an artist. For me, it truly was and is a great inspiration. This trip I look forward to hanging out with Gene Higa & Anne Hamilton, who are very popular destination photographers. They will be speaking at the show as well. Alisha & Brook Todd will also be there, they'll be speaking also and we'll be having some fun with them.. They just got rated by American Photo Magazine to be one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world...did I mention that I know them? icon_wink Also, we will be hanging out with Steve Kurtz of Kurtz Photographics. He is a really great photographer, and a rep for Bay Photo Lab. Steve photographed our wedding, and is a good friend. Bay will be displaying some of our prints at their booth, which is going to be huge this year. I hope to hook up with Graphistudio, Zookbinders, and Pictage, I think I would like to try speaking in the next couple years....we'll see. Anyway, see you all when we get back! - JK Image

Stephanie & Keoni's engagement in San Francisco

Laughs, a mile a minute. Hi-jinks (I love that word, although I'm not quite sure what it actually means...) and some seriously goofy behavior. Mixed in with all of this, we captured and created some really beautiful, romantic photographs. Stephanie & Keoni are getting married at the Lodge at Pebble Beach, and they live in SF, not far from where we photographed them. What a day! Eric Callero came along for the shoot to add his film-maker's touch to the session. Congratulations to Eric for landing the lead in a feature film..(he's also a talented actor.) We made sure Steph & Keo got an autograph before we left. icon_wink
I love to play with scale. This was with a 15mm fisheye, and a strobe set to the same angle as the sun Image
24mm wide shot up the arch, nice kiss! Image
I saw this light and simply had to have it. It goes like that a lot, actually. Very spontaneous. Image
This beam of light coming through the Palace was very beautiful. I had Eric reflecting light on them, and then composited 2 layers in photoshop for detail in the highlights and shadows. Image
Backlit by the sun coming through the structure Image
I didn't feel the need to warn them...at least they didn't have dinner plans. Image

That was cold...Now this one I did not see coming...I swear! Image

He didn't do it, but for a second I thought he might... Image

Kaweh - Spanish Guitar & World music band

Kaweh is a very charismatic musician. He is driven, he is passionate, and VERY good at what he does. He has an excellent band and 4 great albums. We did the images for his last album cover, and photographed him at a live show. He gave us one of his promo pieces and the other image was on his CD. Promo Piece Image Cover of "Espana" I actually captured this at a live show. These are Kaweh's fans dancing, while Kaweh plays in the background Image Cover of "Espana" This was Kaweh's idea to photograph his guitar in the window at the mission. I told him that we needed his reflection in the shot to make it more dynamic. Image
