St. Lucia, St. Maarten & the end of our Caribbean cruise

Well, it's easy to see why so many people plan their weddings for the Caribbean islands...it is absolutely beautiful...especially the water. Destination wedding photographers have a field day in a climate and surroundings like these. We have photographed in Hawaii, and would love to photograph a wedding here also. Destination wedding photographers have the life! We only do a limited number of destination weddings per year, because we work quite a bit from Carmel to Napa Valley, but we are able to get out of the state and country a few times a year. It's a nice break. We swam with the dolphins on a little island off the coast of St. Maarten...I was amazed at how smart they were. They were happy to do whatever we wanted..as long as we gave them a fish or a squid. We are happy to be home and ready for the wedding season to really get going! Tomorrow we shoot on the SanFrancisco Bay on the Galaxy Commodore yacht. I guess I'll still have my sea-legs! Puerto Rican Rainforest, Barbados and St. Lucia

We were happy about coming back to San Juan Puerto Rico to see the island. First stop, the Caribbean National Rain Forest. It was incredibly beautiful with thousands of plant species. Next stop was Barbados where we had the pleasure of meeting Tiko (the monkey) on our excursion. Poor thing looked pretty board but got a kick out of grabbing John’s camera. I wanted to give him some rum punch but his owner was passed out in the corner so I couldn’t ask. We had a wonderful day at Malibu Beach where Malibu Rum is made and enjoyed the local life. Victor (an obvious partaker of the rum punch) serenaded us with a not-so-in-tune version of Tina Turner’s “Solid as a rock” but he sure looked special in a Speedo. Our nex port was St. Lucia, I heard it was the #1 place to get married in the world and our good friends Dr. Aaron Hinde and his wife Ramah were united in Matrimony there as well. We first took a tour of the island which stated in the excursion book as “photo tour and minimal walking involved.” What we found this to mean was mostly older folks in dire need of attitude adjustments. “Frick & Frack” was a term used to call your friends back to the bus along with “Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.” Unfortunately we had the pleasure of meeting “The Four Amigos” who all had matching tee shirts with their pictures on them entitled so. One amigo had a hard time controlling his wandering eyes and I had to spend the rest of the tour with a towel over my top half. We sat at the back of the bus…bad idea, by the time Frick & Frack and the Four Amigos were off the bus it was time to go. Luckily we had the opportunity to meet the goats, their owner and eat the most delicious banana’s we’ve ever had. Today we are in Antigua and will only be seeing the island from the boat as we will be pool side recuperating from the Four Amigos tour. -Michonne Image Banana Muncher....he must of put down a whole twelve pack! Grenada, Bonnaire & Aruba in the Caribbean Sea

A few more days of relaxation, beautiful sights and sun (I can only take so much….it’s sunny and hot and I am almost as white as they come….) and we’re on the open Caribbean on our way to San Juan. At Bonnaire, we took a water taxi (fancy word for party barge) to a long thin beach called Klein. Very beautiful…we snorkeled and saw some amazing fish picking at the coral as the white sand beach dropped off sharply deep in the the Caribbean blue. The water is so blue, it’s amazing. Very clear, you can see more than 20 feet deep no problem. Mish loved being my biker mama as we rode a Harley-Davidson all around Aruba. Great Island, but also kind of a desert in the middle. We met our good friend Peder Wilkinson in Aruba where he studying to become a doctor. He wants to assist people in 3rd world countries and work in missions at the same time. A true philanthropist and a great guy! We also met his colleague Adam from Ghana, Africa. He was very knowledgeable and could not wait to be practicing medicine in the hospital again. He was a nurse for a few years in Ghana…he has some great stories. He says he is still getting used to American food. Caribbean Cruise April 2007

Well we’re off! Mish and I are on a 15 day Caribbean cruise on the Crown Princess with Princess Cruise Lines, and a much needed vacation. Of course, we are still addicted to taking photographs, so we brought a few cameras. Most of the below images are taken using a Canon PowerShot SD500 Digital ELPH compact Camera. It has a little 3X zoom and 7.1 megapixels for those of you who are techno-geeks. If you know what you are doing, you can actually get some really great photographs using point-and-shoot cameras. I have even gotten images with little cameras like these that people think are from a professional camera. Our other camera that we brought is my Canon 1Ds mark II 16.7mp camera with a 24-70mm f2.8 lens. I have used it a little, but as I said, this is vacation, and we’ve been by the pool most of the time. So far, we’ve been in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Kitts and Grenada. We’re off to Bonaire right now and will be there in the morning. In St. Thomas, Mish and I went to Magen’s Bay Beach, rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world by National geographic. At St. Kitts, we took a catamaran to Nevis, another beautiful small island situated right next to it. Here's the ship at the dock the first time we saw it. Unbelievable! Image Mish walking up the gangway...exciting stuff! We've never been on a cruise together! Image Image Jamaican boaters on St. Kitts Image Image The captain has a speech on his welcome night. Everyone dresses in formal wear. Image Image Mish snapped this shot of us on a crazy taxi to Magen's Beach in St' Kitts. Super windy road up a mountain in a taxi with no doors Image Our siling captain on a trip to the Island of Nevis Image Image Image The ship is larger then most of the port towns! Image One of the top 10 beaches in the world, Magen's Bay Beach Image Image God's canvas. Straight from the camera...no photoshop! Image The center of the ship...we still can't believe this is floating in the middleof the ocean Image San Juan Harbor in Puerto Rico Image Image Image The surface of the water as we sail by. WPPI and PPA Professional Print Contests

To be operating at the best of our ability, we like to enter our work into competitions among professionals to see how we stack up. Last time we entered the WPPI print competition, we left with 7 awards. We competed with Professional photographers all over the world. We won a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd place, as well as 5 awards for excellence. We will be entering the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and the WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) print competitions with close to 20 prints. Mish will be entering 8 prints, and I will be entering 12 or so. Here are just a few that we will be entering. Wish us luck! Image Image Image
