The Easter Service at the Orthodox Church (St. Lawrence in Felton, CA) is one of my favorite things to photograph all year long. Everyone is excited and the service is very beautiful with singing, incense, processions, shouting "Christ is Risen" in many different languages, not to mention the feast that follows right after.
Valerie reads the verses by candlelight before the service starts
Wax invariably hits the floor
Everyone waits outside after the procession to be let in to the church (symbolizing the Kingdom of God.)
It's after midnight and not everyone makes it through the whole service
Fr. Simeon, an old monk, passes out red-dyed eggs to the kids
These images are from the feast continuing the next day. The week after Easter is called Bright Week and is full of Celebration
My brother Dave and his son Jacob
